Pledge Process FAQ

Q: What is the pledge process?
Ans: The pledge process is the period of time in which new applicants, or pledges, develop and build upon their academic and professional skills. The goal of the pledge process is to improve each applicant on his or her way towards becoming a brother.

Q: How long is the pledge process?
Ans: While there is no set time for the pledge process, a usual pledge process can last anywhere from 6-10 weeks. Generally, the length of the pledge process depends on the given circumstances.

Q: How much time does pledging require?
Ans: Again, there is not set time requirement for pledging. Generally, the time commitment for pledging is not too strenuous and past pledge classes have spent a few hours per week working on pledge assignments.

Q: Will I have time to balance school and pledge?
Ans: Absolutely. It is very easy to manage pledging while continuing to perform well in school. Members of past pledge classes have even balanced school, pledging and some other activity all at once.

Q: Will my GPA suffer during pledging?
Ans: One of AEZ’s core beliefs is that academics always come first. Due to this belief, AEZ puts school responsibilities above all else. In fact, many members of past pledge classes have boasted their highest GPAs during the pledge semester.

Q: I’ve heard that fraternities haze during pledge. Will I be hazed?
Ans: Absolutely not. California law strictly prohibits hazing of any sort; this is why hazing practices are quickly becoming incredibly difficult to find in almost any fraternity.

Q: I still have more questions about the pledge process. Who do I contact?
Ans: Specific pledge process questions should be sent directly to the Vice Presidents of Pledge Education, Dilraj Bhadare and Kunal Modi.
